The Concordia volleyball team faced the The College of Saint Mary in a contest in Omaha on Wednesday, Oct. 26 and won 3-1 (21-25, 29-27, 25-16, 32-30) against the Flames.

The Bulldogs overcame a first game loss and then went on to win three consecutive games.

Senior right side hitter Tiegen Skains fired away for the Bulldogs with 13 kills. Senior outside hitter Paige Getz and freshman outside hitter Alex La Plant stepped up with 12 kills each. Senior setter Alayna Kavanaugh led the team with 44 assists.

“I think we really came together as a team and had each others’ backs,” said La Plant. “We all focused on doing our jobs just a little bit better and that led to our success.”

The Bulldogs were 11-16 overall and 3-8 in GPAC play prior to the game. The Flames came into the game with a 6-14 overall record and a 2-11 GPAC record.

“In the fourth set I think we all wanted to win so badly because we all know how much hard work we have been putting in lately,” La Plant said.

College of Saint Mary Freshman outside hitter Dani Carlson led the Flames with 13 kills but it was not enough to come away with a win on the night.

“After the break we have really come together as a team and had some of our best practices all year,” said La Plant. “To prepare for the two games this weekend we will continue to work hard day in and day out with the people we love for the sport we love.”
