Bulldogs keep rolling with eight straight wins

The No. 2 nationally ranked Concordia Bulldogs volleyball team continued its successful season on Wednesday night, sweeping the Doane Tigers 3-0 in Crete, Nebraska, to extend their winning streak to eight straight matches.
The Bulldogs have been scorching hot at the net and couldn’t have done it without the ruthless play from junior Shandy Fa’ali’i, who was the leader in kills for the team in the match with 16. Fa’ali’i was not the only hitter who was showing off her talent; senior middle Bella Hedke had eight of her own kills with just one error on 15 swings. The Bulldogs had 42 kills as a team, which dominated over the Tigers, who had 28.
From the opening serve, the Bulldogs flexed their muscles and stormed out to a 20-9 lead in the first set. It finished 25-12 and was followed by 25-21 and 25-20 set wins.
Concordia played a well-rounded game as they shined on both sides of the ball. They held the Doane Tigers to a hitting percentage of .109, and Concordia’s hitting percentage was .298. Senior Lanie Brott showcased her defensive skills as she led the team with 12 digs.
The Bulldogs continue to control the matchup against Great Plains Athletic Conference rival Doane and haven’t lost to the Tigers since Oct. 21, 2021.
With this win, the Dawgs improve to a 14-2 overall record and 5-0 in conference play. They look to continue this winning streak in their next game in Mitchell, South Dakota, as they face the No. 12 Dakota Wesleyan Tigers on Sept. 26.
