Home Sports Bulldog Volleyball Loses Both Matches in Orange City

by Chris Johnstone

The Bulldog volleyball team made a homecoming trip to Orange City, Iowa, to take on Westmont College of California and Northwestern College and lost both matches. The Bulldogs fell 3-0 in the first match to Northwestern, and 3-1 in the second match against Westmont.

The Westmont Warriors, a part of the Golden State Athletic Conference, are 23-0 overall and 8-0 conference play. Northwestern is 13-14 overall and 5-4 in the GPAC. Senior outside hitter Paige Getz led the Bulldogs with 15 kills in the first match and 10 in the second, but it was not enough to secure a road victory.

“It was a tough loss, we just didn’t bring it that day,” Getz said. “We’ve gone through a lot this season so it has been a little difficult to put our whole hearts into every game. When we played Westmont, the No. 2 team in the nation after the Northwestern game, I saw spurts of heart and where we used to be. We just tried to have fun that game.”

The Bulldogs who are 11-13 overall and 3-5 in the GPAC have a busy week ahead of them as they prepare both mentally and physically for their match against No. 1 ranked Midland Warriors.

“We are going into the Midland game with nothing to lose, and we want to make the most of it,” Getz said. “What we are focusing on is having fun and playing together, because that has been a big deal for us. When we have fun and play together we are just about unstoppable. Even to a team as good as Midland. We took a match from them last season, and we are more than capable of doing that again.”

The Bulldogs return to their home court at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, to take on (18-1, 8-1 GPAC) Midland Warriors.
