The No. 9 Concordia University women’s basketball team was outshot and outrebounded by No. 1 Dordt in a 79-57 loss on Dec. 13.

After leading at the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs let points slip by in the ensuing three periods and struggled to score down the stretch against the No. 1 team in the Great Plains Athletic Conference and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Much of the issue for the Bulldogs came down to poor rebounding. The Bulldogs put up five offensive and 18 defensive rebounds for a total of 23. Dordt had 18 offensive and 45 defensive for a 63 total. This helped Dordt lead the second-chance points 15-2.

The Bulldogs also struggled in shooting from around the court, 31 percent from the field and 27 percent from three. Dordt edged them out with 44 percent from field goals and 43 percent from behind the arc.

Sophomore Savannah Butterfield came off the bench to lead the Bulldogs in points with 15. Butterfield was 5-8 from the field and 4-5 from three-point range.

Over half of the Bulldog points came from the bench, with junior Juliana Jones putting up nine and the rest of the bench adding seven.

The Bulldogs are 10-2, 6-2 GPAC, and will need to pack their bags as they skip the cold weather and cross the Pacific Ocean on their way to the Hawaii Classic. The first game is Dec. 18 against Campbellsville University.
