The Concordia Bulldogs swept the Hastings Broncos in three sets with a strong performance from Sophomore Carley Rodaway, who finished the night with 12 points. Junior setter Bree Burtwistle captured 41 of the Bulldogs’ 44 assists of the night.
The Bulldogs won the sets 25-20, 25-20, and 25-12. In the final set, the Bulldogs began to hit their stride as they pulled away to a 13-6 lead, which forced a Hastings timeout. After that point the Bulldogs continued with a strong offense, extending the lead to 22-10. Junior Kalee Wiltfong and Rodaway each picked up four kills in the final set.
Rodaway finished the night with 10 kills. Her teammates senior Camryn Opfer and freshmen Ashley Keck followed with nine kills each. Opfer attributes her success to the coaches and how the players stepped up during the game.
“The coaches really instill in us that the seniors have to be role models and leaders, but everyone can be a leader,” Opfer said, “and I think you kind of saw that tonight.” Opfer also racked up 11 digs for the night and finished with an 11-point performance.
The strong performance in the first GPAC match of the season moves Concordia to a 6-0 record for the year, with a 1-0 GPAC record.
