Bulldogs Volleyball Finish Their Weekend Strong

Concordia volleyball once again continued their undefeated season with games against the Dakota State University Trojans and Evangel University Valor on Saturday. The Bulldogs won both their games 3-1. The Bulldogs continued their time in North Sioux City, S.D. as part of the Labor Day Weekend Classic hosted by College of Saint Mary.
Concordia beat Dakota State with sets scored 25-18, 25-22, and 25-11. The Bulldogs dominated over the Trojans in the first set of the match and kept a large lead between the teams. The second set of the match went to the Trojans by a six point lead.
The third set was close the entire time, with Dakota State using the morale boost from their win to keep up with Concordia. The Bulldogs held the Trojans off and took the third set. The fourth set went terrifically for Concordia with a strong early lead and a 14-point lead at the end of the set.
Concordia beat Evangel with sets scored 25-15, 25-21, and 25-15. The Bulldogs started off their second game of the day with a large lead and a quick first set. However, the second set started off with a huge lead fromValor, and the Bulldogs struggled to score, losing the set 25-14.
The third set started off with Evangel leading, but the Bulldogs came back and held off Valor with a nine point run to win the set. The fourth set went similarly to the fourth set against Dakota State. Concordia took an early lead and held it for the rest of the set.
Senior Camryn Opfer led the team in kills on Saturday, with 26 total kills between the two games. Opfer was closely followed by freshman Ashley Keck and sophomore Gabi Nordaker, each with 24. Junior Bree Burtwistle led the team in assists, with 94, and sophomore Rebecca Gebhardt had the most digs of the day with 41.
The Concordia volleyball team is now 10-0 overall and 1-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The team plays again on Sept. 7 in Fremont, Neb. against Midland University.
