Home Sports Concordia Baseball Drops a Pair to No. 12 Tabor College

by Garrett Suchanek

A week after the Concordia men’s baseball team lost a doubleheader to No. 12 Tabor College in Kansas, the Blue Jays repeated the same outcome at Plum Creek Park by defeating the Bulldogs 12-6 and 16-5 to drop Concordia to 14-14 on the year.

In game one, the Bulldogs had four pitchers take the mound to try and contain the offense of the Blue Jays, but two four-run innings were enough to overcome Concordia’s offensive power. Despite the loss, three Bulldogs had a multi-hit game. Juniors Christian Montero, Ryan Fesmire and Casey Berg each collected two hits apiece. Senior Taylor Dudley came in to pinch hit and recorded a hit and two RBIs.

In the second game, Concordia couldn’t tame the Blue Jays’ offensive firepower as Tabor plated 16 runs. The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead after the first inning, but the Blue Jays strung together four consecutive scoring innings. Tabor College scored 15 runs in the next four innings to blow the game open. Concordia was held to five hits in the game, and no Bulldog recorded more than one hit.

Concordia will have over a week to prepare for its next set of games. The Bulldogs will open conference play when they host Dakota Wesleyan University for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 2. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
