Concordia Baseball Earns First Win over Doane Since 2009
by Matthew Goedeken
Concordia’s baseball team picked up a win at Doane College on Sunday, April 24, but split the doubleheader with the Tigers losing 13-0, and then winning 5-0.
Concordia couldn’t get the offense rolling in the first game and had four hits in 25 attempts. The Bulldogs also could not find the answer to Doane’s offense; Concordia gave up 13 hits and had three errors.
In the second game, Concordia’s pitching was able to shut out the Tigers. Sophomore Neil Ryan went six innings, giving up just two hits and picking up five strikeouts. Junior Josh Prater also got in an inning and did not give up a hit.
Concordia finished with scoring five runs on four hits and five errors made by Doane. Junior Christian Montero went 2-for-4 on the day with one RBI as the designated hitter.
Concordia is now 9-7 in the GPAC and 23-23 overall. They are in fourth place, and with the season drawing near a close, it looks like the Bulldogs will make the tournament. The Bulldogs have one non-conference game coming up against the Grace Royals on Monday, April 25.
