Concordia men’s basketball took an 88-78 loss this Sunday against Dakota Wesleyan University. The game remained close until the second half, when the score started to run away from the Bulldogs.

From the tipoff, the Tigers got a leg up on the Bulldogs, but Concordia was able to maintain momentum and keep the game within a few possessions.

Sophomore Dane Jacobson was an offensive powerhouse for Concordia in the first half and was responsible for 21 of the Bulldogs’ 78 points. Jacobson shot 70 percent from the three-point line and scored some clutch points to give his team a fighting chance. He also contributed to the Bulldog’s only lead of the game midway through the first half

For a majority of the first half, the Bulldogs maintained their lead until an offensive drought allowed the Tigers to jump ahead 35-33.

From then on until halftime, the Bulldogs trailed by one or two possessions, but ended the first half trailing Dakota Wesleyan by four points at 40-44.

From the start of the second half, the Bulldogs weren’t able to bring the same offensive intensity that they had brought to the first. More and more shots were missed from the start of the second half by the Bulldogs, which began to cement Dakota Wesleyan’s lead.

With around seven minutes left, Concordia fell more than ten points back, but was able, for a while, to bring the score a little closer. The Bulldogs were unable to keep the Tiger’s offense at bay until the end of play, leaving the score at 78-88.

The Bulldogs are back at home on Wednesday, Jan. 21, when they will face off with Midland for the second time this season. The Bulldogs will try to rectify an 82-67 loss suffered on Dec. 10. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
