Home Sports Concordia Softball Splits with Nebraska Wesleyan

by Garrett Suchanek

The Concordia softball team turned in another split doubleheader on Wednesday evening as the Bulldogs dropped the first game and won the nightcap against the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves. With the split, the Bulldogs moved to 26-11 overall and 7-5 in GPAC.

In game one, Concordia lost in extra innings. The Bulldogs scored one run in the top of the sixth inning to knot the game at one apiece. That score stood after seven innings and into the ninth inning.

In the ninth inning, the Bulldogs started off with a bang as junior Taylor Huff and sophomore Michaela Woodward hit home runs to give Concordia a 3-1 advantage, but that was all for the Bulldog offense. In the bottom half of the ninth, the Prairie Wolves responded with hot bats of their own. The Prairie Wolves had four hits in a row to drive in two runs to tie the game. With the winning run 60 feet away, Nebraska Wesleyan mustered one more hit for a walk-off win.

In the second game, the Bulldogs used a four-run second inning to hold on for a 5-4 victory. In the second inning, the Bulldogs recorded four hits—two singles and two doubles. Junior Kylie Harpst pitched a complete game for Concordia and gave up three earned runs on 11 hits.

Concordia will be back in action on Saturday, April 16 when the team hosts Dakota Wesleyan for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
