Home Sports Concordia Men’s Tennis Earns First Conference Win of the Year

Wednesday afternoon the Concordia men’s tennis team picked up its first GPAC win of the year by defeating the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves 7-2. The win moves the Bulldogs to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in GPAC.

The Bulldogs started the match strong by sweeping the doubles play part of the competition. Freshman Willy Pardos and junior Javier Moreno teamed up for the No. 1 spot and won 8-1. Filling the No. 2 spot was the team of freshman Thomas Greeff and junior Patricio Esquivel, who won 8-6. In what was the closest of the three matches, freshman Gabriel Poling and junior Philip Yox teamed up to win their match 9-8 (7-4).

In the singles portion of the match, the Bulldogs won four of the six matches. Pardos, Greeff and Moreno all won in straight sets, while Poling won in a three-set thriller. Esquivel lost a close one in three sets 3-6, 6-0 and 10-8. Freshman Tommy McNish rounded out the singles play and lost 6-1 and 6-2.

The Bulldogs will have to travel for their next competition as they face Midland University in Fremont on Friday, April 15. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
