The Concordia men’s baseball team squared off against Hastings Broncos in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Bulldogs won 13-1 and 11-5.
The scoring explosion in the first game came in the third inning. Junior Jaidan Quinn homered to start the barrage and Hastings could not stop the scoring until the Bulldogs had scored eleven runs. Quinn finished the first game with three hits on four at-bats. Junior Jayden Adams was also instrumental in the scoring run as he recorded three runs batted in on one hit. Concordia scored their last two runs in the fifth inning.
Junior Caden Johnson pitched five innings, recorded five strikeouts, and only allowed one run on three hits. Freshman Ernie Snyder came in for relief and gave up one hit through two innings pitched.
Concordia opened up the second game with two runs in the first inning. However, the scoring frenzy also came in the third inning for the second game. The Bulldogs scored seven runs powered by a three-run senior Ben Burg homer. Burg had two hits and five RBIs. Concordia scored an additional two runs to seal the game in the seventh.
Sophomore Christian Gutierrez pitched a solid six innings, only allowing two runs on seven hits. Fellow sophomore Qwin Zabokrtsky pitched one inning in relief and allowed three runs on two hits.
After one win and one loss against Northwestern College on Thursday, the Bulldogs improved to 20-10 overall and 6-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. They will again play a doubleheader against Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, on April 3.
