The Concordia dance team started their season off with an 80.9 win in a dual against the College of Saint Mary Flames on Jan. 18 in Friedrich Arena.

The Bulldog squad made up of sophomore Hanna Bitner, freshman Brynley Cooper, junior Taylor Larsen, junior Elise O’Neill and freshmen Bianca Romshek and Jozlin Schmidt had an eight-point lead over the Flames, who finished with a 72.7.

A start in the 80s bodes well for the team who was seeded fourth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference preseason poll. However, they look to tough competition in the conference. The team tied with Dordt University in the poll and are behind Doane University, Morningside University and Midland University.

The 80.9 score also matches the team’s average score of 80.57 from the previous season.

The team’s next outing will be the Concordia Invitational Tournament Cheer and Dance event on Jan. 25 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Concordia Ann Arbor is another nationally recognized dance squad in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and will provide good competition for the Bulldogs as they start their season.
