Deaconess Rose Adle spoke at the Rooted Women event this Thursday evening about being rooted and grounded in God’s love to support our personal identities and relationships rather than basing our identities on our own selfish capabilities and aspirations, using Ephesians 3:17b-19.
50 women attended to listen to the presentation and enjoy Jimmy John’s sandwiches and soda.
Adle focused on Christ’s love as a crucial part of our identity in her presentation and described how the world tells us we should base who we are on our own capabilities and aspirations, but God asks us to ground ourselves in God’s gifts for us.
Adle called humility and patience “the ground conditions for growth” to love hard to love people, because when we approach others as more significant than ourselves, we can realize that we are hard to love, too.
Junior Allie Hassler found Adle’s topic relatable and helpful. She said, “She talked about the balance between our confidence in God’s love and staying humble.”
Freshman Ana Boyle enjoyed the depth that Adle went into about identity and God’s love.
Boyle said, “She (Adle) took an easy topic that could have been shallow and gave us a new way to look at it.”
Boyle had been to a Rooted Women event before, but she went to this event because she had heard of Adle. Her takeaway from the speaker was that “We can be rooted in God’s love and show His love to others with patience and humility.”
Freshman Kiersten Bjordahl attended the Rooted Women event because she had been to a few before, and she had heard that Deaconess Adle was presenting.
Junior Anna Pennekamp organizes the Rooted Women events on campus, and she said that Deaconess Adle had heard about Rooted Women and reached out a year prior about being a speaker for one of her events.
Pennekamp said, “She had given her presentation at a church in Illinois, and we figured out a way for her to give that presentation here this year.”
Deaconess Rose Adle works remotely as the Associate Director of Deaconess Formation at Concordia Theological Seminary Fort Wayne.
