Home Sports Doane College Shuts Down No. 7 Women’s Basketball

by Jacy Johnston

The No. 7 Concordia women’s basketball team had its largest loss of the season against GPAC foe Doane College. Lights-out shooting led the Tigers to 62 percent from behind the 3-point arc and 55 percent from the field. Doane tallied 91 points, with 39 points coming from 3-pointers, and Concordia put up only 55 points in the contest.

Despite sophomore Brenleigh Daum starting the Bulldogs off with a 3-pointer and a 3-0 lead, Concordia quickly lapsed. Doane scored the next nine points before another 3-pointer paused the Doane Tiger momentum. Doane continued their stifling defense, forcing nine Concordia turnovers in the first quarter for a 24-13 lead after the first eight minutes. The second quarter tipped once again in favor of the Tigers, and a 30-3 run for Doane helped solidify a large halftime lead. At the break, Concordia trailed 52-29.

The third quarter did not prove to be better for the Bulldogs offensively, but junior Devin Edwards and Daum both knocked down 3-pointers to contribute to the 10-point scoring effort. Doane outscored the Bulldogs 20-10 in the third to give the scoreboard a 72-39 tally. The fourth quarter once again tipped in favor of the Tigers, and the Bulldogs finished the night with a 91-55 loss.

Daum led all Concordia scorers with 12 points, and senior Becky Mueller added another 10 points. Six other Bulldogs contributed points in the scorebook for Concordia. The Bulldogs stand at 15-6 overall and 10-6 in the GPAC.

The Bulldogs will look to bounce back at CIT this Friday against Concordia Ann Arbor at 1 p.m. in Chicago.
