Day One: Friday, March 27
Concordia’s Male Chorus, directed by adjunct music professor Paul Soulek, left campus on Friday afternoon to embark on a two-day tour to showcase a set of songs at area churches. Soulek and 22 choir members took four minivans to Oxford, Nebraska, just under two hours from campus.
The choir sang for an evening prayer service with the congregation of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oxford. They had dinner with the pastor’s family and a few other lay members.
After the service, several couples and families hosted members of the choir in their homes, many of which were on farms in the country. Many of the choir members said they stayed up until midnight watching the NCAA basketball tournament with their hosts.
Day Two: Saturday, March 28
The next morning, after breakfast, choir members were ferried back to St. John to depart on the next leg of the trip, which brought them two and a half hours southeast to Linn, Kansas, stopping for lunch on the way.
Once they arrived at Zion Lutheran Church in Linn, they sang for an afternoon prayer service. Several children from the congregation participated in the service, playing the organ and singing up front with the choir.
From there, the vans loaded back up and drove the remainder of the trip back to Seward. Male Chorus sang one more time for the Saturday evening service at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward.
