Shooting sports athletes claim individual titles at ACUI Championships
By Ransom Watts
The Concordia shooting sports team came home with a few national titles this last week in San Antonio, Texas, at the 2026 Association of College Unions International Clay Target National Championships.
The Bulldogs finished seventh in the division two competition with a team total of 2687 targets destroyed, trailing closely behind the University of the Ozarks, with William Penn winning the overall.
As a team, the bulldogs excelled in the trap and skeet disciplines, putting up solid numbers in the high 400s. Overall team performance suffered, however, in sporting clays and super shooting, where the Bulldogs’ lowest score of 370 is found.
Individually, the Bulldogs saw many victories last week. Senior Devin Harris put up the best men’s performance for Concordia with a high-overall score of 555 across the various shooting disciplines. On the women’s side, seniors Katie Welker and Kaylee Hinton led the charge for Concordia. Welker and Hinton both brought home national titles, Welker in doubles trap and Hinton in Open skeet.
Down the line, many of Concordia’s shooters managed to end the competition with very solid scores as well. Graduate Sam Blevins had an HOA of 501, and his sophomore teammate Clayton Gellerman was trailing close behind with an HOA of 496.
Despite the lack of a team podium finish, the individual command from both the men and women hints at the depth that the shooting team is capable of. At the end of the day, while not quite a dominating force as a whole, the shooting team showed their strengths and what they are capable of.
The Bulldogs will close out their season on April 11-12 with the Concordia Bulldog International Tournament.
