Home Sports Men’s Basketball’s Hot Shooting Propels Victory over Lancers

The (RV) Concordia men’s basketball team took on the Mount Marty Lancers on Saturday, Dec. 12 in Walz Arena. The Bulldogs came out victorious 94-79 with sharp shooting from the Bulldogs.

After gaining a quick 7-0 lead, the Bulldogs fell behind 9-7. Concordia regained the lead after a 3-pointer from senior Micah Kohlwey. Halfway through the first half, the Lancers led 28-27. The Bulldogs made an offensive run to end the half and led 52-44 at halftime.

The second half brought along continued offensive firepower for the Bulldogs. A Mount Marty 8-0 run closed the score to 72-60. However, Concordia slowly grew their lead and with less than four minutes in the game, the Bulldogs led 88-71. With a minute left in the game, junior Chandler Folkerts drained a shot to give the Bulldogs a 92-77 lead. Both teams scored another bucket for a final score of 94-79.

Senior Robby Thomas and Folkerts led the Bulldogs with 24 and 23 points respectively. Senior Jamie Pearson put up 21 points and had six assists, junior Eli Ziegler netted 12 points along with seven assists and Kohlwey tallied six assists. The Bulldogs shot 64 percent from the field, 52 percent from the 3-point line and 94 percent from the free throw line.

Folkerts also shot a perfect 10-10 from the field and perfect 3-3 from the free throw line.

Concordia stands at 8-3 and 4-3 in GPAC. The Bulldogs will travel to Iowa for a rematch against GPAC conference foe Dordt College at 7 p.m. on Dec. 18.
