by Parker Hasenkamp

Concordia’s men’s golf team concluded the 2016-2017 season with five golfers competing in the two-day, four-round Great Plains Athletic Conference championships in Woodland Hills in Eagle this weekend. Concordia finished seventh out of the 10 teams and 61 golfers who took to the greens for the championships.

The highest finishers for the team were of a freshman and a sophomore. Freshman Tylar Samek finished the best overall for the Bulldogs after shooting a total of 321 and finishing 22nd. Sophomore Nolan Zikas was the next highest-placing Bulldog finishing with a total of 323 and placing 24th.

Senior Jared Knoepfel concluded his Concordia golf career by shooting a total 326 which placed him at 26th overall. Junior Russell Otten placed 33rd overall with a total of 333.

Reid Wiebe and Tyler Ehresman also competed in the tournament but did not individually place.

Concordia men’s golf seems to be in pretty good hands for the future as the only member to be leaving the team is Knoepfel. The team’s top three players will return its top for the 2017-2018 season.
