Home Sports Men’s Soccer Loses Close Game in Quarterfinals

Concordia Men’s Soccer lost 2-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Quarterfinals against Morningside College on Wednesday, Nov. 3. They finished the season with an overall record of 7-8-3, 5-4-2 in GPAC. 

Morningside started fast, scoring their first goal within the first two minutes of the game. Concordia would fight back when sophomore Matt Shultz got the lone goal for the Bulldogs in the 37 minute assisted by senior Garrett Perry. Morningside ended up scoring the game-winning goal in the 55 minute. 

As a team, Concordia had 11 shots with only four on goal, compared to Morningside’s 20 shots with nine being on goal. Freshman Iker Casanova and Sophomore Yessine Bessaies each had two shots of their own and one shot on goal. Freshman Gabriel Mendoza was in goal for the Bulldogs as he recorded seven saves on the night. 

This puts an end to the men’s soccer team’s season. Last season Concordia finished with an overall record of 10-5-3, 7-2-2 in GPAC where they would lose to Northwestern College 10-9 in the GPAC quarterfinals.
