Home Sports Men’s Tennis Bounces Back with 5-4 Win

A day after losing a heartbreaker, the Concordia men’s tennis team picked up a 5-4 win over Friends University.

The Bulldogs (6-5) clinched the win when the No. 5 singles spot, filled by freshman Gabriel Poling, defeated his opponent in straight sets 6-3 and 6-3.

In doubles competition Friends had an advantage by winning two of the three matches. The only team to win for the Bulldogs were the No. 2 team of freshman Thomas Greeff and junior Patricio Esquivel. Greeff and Esquivel won 8-6.

In singles play the Bulldogs took four of the first five matches to seal the win. Freshman Willy Pardos won a three-set thriller over Ferdinand Ostrowick 7-6, 4-6 and 10-5. Junior Javier Moreno and Poling won in straight sets while Esquivel won in three sets. Moreno won 6-4 and 6-4, Poling won 6-3 and 6-3, and Esquivel won 3-6, 6-0 and 10-5.

Greeff and Philip Yox were the two other Bulldogs in competition today. Greeff and Yox lost their singles matches 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-2 respectively.

Concordia will be back in action for the third day in a row when they take on Seminole State College on Friday.
