Senior Josh Burmeister concluded his term as Student Senate President on Tuesday by thanking Senate representatives for a successful year of work and encouraging them to continue building community on campus.

Burmeister said he has witnessed how Concordia’s sense of campus community has grown since he was a freshman in 2021.

“This campus is better now than it was in 2021,” he said. “Many people are conflicted over what they should do in the evenings because there’s too many events, not because there’s too few. The last two years especially have seen an influx of students who are looking for a real connection that will last a lifetime, and I’m happy to tell you that they’re finding it here now more than ever.”

Burmeister said that a student’s time at Concordia is short in the grand scheme of things, but their impact on the campus community can be felt for much longer. He encouraged club representatives to keep reaching out to students and building a culture of fellowship.

“You are all here to represent various clubs. You are looking out for the good of other people, making sure other voices are being heard,” said Burmeister. “Advocating for others, you are serving this campus community.”

Burmeister emphasized that “at CUNE, everyone has a purpose for being here.”

He commended how Senate members worked on service projects, hosted campus outreach events, and were passionate about their activities and one another.

“It’s impossible to reach everybody, but I applaud you for reaching out to everyone you can,” Burmeister said.

Burmeister concluded his final address as Senate president by thanking his fellow students for their hard work to improve Concordia’s campus: “I’ll love you all forever. Thank you for a good year.”

Burmeister then swore in the new Senate officers for the 2025-2026 school year. They are Quinlan Hendrickson, president; Ramona Ojeda, vice president; Emma VanTol, treasurer; and Kayla Korb, secretary.
