Home Sports No. 12 Briar Cliff Fends off (RV) Concordia Men’s Basketball

by Garrett Suchanek

Saturday afternoon the (RV) Concordia men’s basketball team showed signs of jetlag from its California trip. The No. 12 Briar Cliff Chargers denied a late second-half rally to hand the Bulldogs their fifth loss of the year.

Concordia (10-5, 4-5) trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half before making its run. At halftime, the Chargers held a 44-35 lead.

To start the second half, the Bulldogs used 3-pointers to erase the nine-point halftime deficit in a matter of four minutes. Junior Chandler Folkerts scored all 21 of his team’s high points in the second half to keep the Bulldogs in the game.

With 8:49 left, Concordia had the game tied at 65 apiece. However, from that point on, the Chargers used a combination of good free throw shooting and efficient inside shooting to pull away from the Bulldogs for the 90-82 win.

Concordia was led by Folkerts, who finished with 21 points. Seniors Robby Thomas and Jamie Pearson also finished with double-figure points with 14 and 12 points respectively.

The Bulldogs will hit the road for their next game. Concordia will take on Midland University at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6 in Fremont.
