Home Sports No. 14 Concordia Women’s Basketball Beats No. 4 Briar Cliff

A top 15 battle ensued in Walz Arena on Saturday, Jan. 2. The No. 14 Concordia women’s basketball team outlasted the No. 4 Briar Cliff Chargers with a 77-75 win.

Concordia (11-3, 6-3) overcame a ten-point deficit to hand the Chargers their third loss of the year. With 3:18 left before half, the Bulldogs trailed 40-30. However, Concordia ended the half with a 9-2 run, which was capped off with a buzzer beater three by sophomore Sydney Feller.

In the second half, the Bulldogs answered any and all Charger runs with runs of their own to keep the game tight going to the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs’ defense shut down the Chargers. Concordia outscored the Chargers 13-8 in the fourth quarter while allowing Briar Cliff only two points for the last eight minutes of the game.

The Bulldogs were led by sophomore Mary Janovich, who finished with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Senior Shelby Quinn and freshman Quinn Wragge also scored double figures with 14 and 13 points respectively.

Concordia will hit the road for the next two weeks before returning to Walz Arena. The Bulldogs will face Midland University in Fremont at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
