Home Sports No. 20 Sterling College Takes Two from Concordia Baseball

by Garrett Suchanek

The Concordia baseball team traveled to Sterling, Kansas, for a doubleheader with No. 20 Sterling College on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs (2-4) dropped both games as the Warriors outlasted Concordia in game one 5-4 in 14 innings and won 22-3 in game two.

In game one, the Bulldogs got six solid innings from starting pitcher sophomore Cole Jackson, who gave up one earned run on six hits while striking three out. Despite being bogged down through six innings, the Warriors plated three runs in the seventh inning to gain a 4-0 lead. In the eighth inning, the Bulldogs’ bats came alive and scored four runs on three hits to tie the game. Both teams’ bullpens were called upon for the extra inning, but a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the 14th inning gave the Warriors the 5-4 win.

In game two, pitcher junior Casey Hall got the start for the Bulldogs, who went three innings and gave up five runs on four hits. The Warriors continued their offensive flurry by totaling 22 runs on 17 hits, which included five home runs.

The Bulldogs will finish their four-game series with Sterling College tomorrow. The first game is set to begin at noon.
