Home Sports No. 4 Women’s Basketball Falls in GPAC Opener

The No. 4 Concordia Bulldogs took on (RV) Hastings College in Hastings for its GPAC opener, but the Broncos were too much for the Bulldogs as Hastings won 74-67 on Wednesday night.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in GPAC while Hastings improves to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in GPAC.

Concordia was in a tight one all night with the Broncos but held a 33-29 halftime lead.

In the second half, Concordia created breathing room following good defense and made free throws. Despite trailing by 11 points with 2:22 left in the third quarter, the Broncos continued fight back.

Going into the fourth quarter, Hastings trimmed the Bulldog lead to nine, 52-43. After Concordia made a bucket early in the quarter the Broncos tightened up their defense and made a run.

With 2:28 left in the game, the Broncos held their first lead, 62-61, since the 3:27 mark in the first quarter.

After Hastings regained the lead, the Broncos went on a 9-0 to open up and ultimately win the game.

The Bulldogs, who usually force more turnovers than they actually turnover, had 17 turnovers compared to the Broncos 12.

Concordia was paced by sophomore Mary Janovich, who finished with 14 points. Sophomore Brenleigh Daum also recorded double-digit points and finished with 11 points. Freshman Quinn Wragge put together a good night as she totaled 11 rebounds, six points and a pair of assists.

The Bulldogs will look to return to their winning ways when they come back home to host No. 1 Morningside College at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov.21.
