by Garrett Suchanek

In the first day of action at the NWCA National Duals, the No. 8 Concordia Bulldogs went 2-1. Concordia faced tough competition all day. The Bulldogs lost their opening dual against No. 14 Lindsey Wilson, but closed out the day with wins over Ottawa and No. 10 Great Falls.

In the opening dual the Bulldogs went back and forth with the Blue Raiders. Both teams were knotted at 18 apiece when the final match was finished. In order to determine the winner the second tiebreaker was used, which was most pin falls during the dual, and the Blue Raiders had more.

Following the loss to the Blue Raiders the Bulldogs took on Ottawa. In this dual Concordia took care of business from start to finish on rout to a 41-3 win. The only match that was lost for the Bulldogs was at the 197 weight class when Alexander Reimers fell 9-7 in OT.

In the final dual of the day, Concordia matched up against tenth ranked Great Falls. Great Falls jumped out to a 6-0 after two wins by decision. However, the Bulldogs picked up two tech. falls and a pin fall to gain a 16-6 lead with five matches left. In the final five matches Concordia won two by pin fall to clinch a 28-19 win over the Argos.

Concordia received impressive performances from a few Bulldogs. Junior Andrew Schulte went 3-0 on the day, which included a major decision and tech. fall. Senior Jr. Lule also went 3-0 on the day, picking up two tech. falls and a forfeit.

The Bulldogs will be in action again tomorrow as they’ll have two duals regardless of winning or losing the first dual. Concordia’s first dual will be against No.6 Life University at 8 a.m. The last dual of the day will be at 12 p.m. against either No.14 Lindsey Wilson or No.7 Oklahoma City.
