by Garrett Suchanek

For the first time in school history, the Concordia wrestling program placed at the NWCA National Duals. The No. 8 Concordia Bulldogs went 1-1 on the day to claim a seventh-place finish.

The Bulldogs lost their opening dual against No. 6 Life University by a final score of 27-15, but rebounded with a win over No. 14 Lindsey Wilson 19-15. Concordia avenged a loss to Lindsey Wilson, who the Bulldogs lost to in their opening dual of the tournament.

In Concordia’s opening dual of the day, the Bulldogs held a lead with three matches to go, but two pin falls and a win by decision for Life University solidified a win for the Running Eagles.

In the final dual of the tournament, the Bulldogs were in a rematch with Lindsey Wilson, who won by virtue of a tiebreaker in the opening dual of the tournament. Concordia was able to pick up two wins by technical fall to give the Bulldogs breathing room heading into the final matches. The Bulldogs held on for a 19-15 win to down the Blue Raiders.

Junior Andrew Schulte continued to add to his win streak, which is now at 12. Schulte won every match throughout the tournament, going 5-0. On day two, Schulte won his first match with a 15-2 major decision and his second match with a 2-1 decision.

Concordia will be in action next Friday and Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Marshall, Missouri, for the Missouri Valley Invite. Friday matches will begin at 5 p.m. and Saturday matches will begin at 1 p.m.
