Home Sports No. 8 CU Wrestling Cruises Past Swedes for School Record

by Garrett Suchanek

On the night when the No. 8 Concordia wrestling team honored 11-year Seward High School assistant wrestling coach Jeramie Schoepf, who died tragically in March 2014, the Bulldogs took care of business en route to a 44-3 win over Bethany College on Feb. 3.

The Bulldogs (11-4, 5-0) collected nine of 10 matches and outscored the Swedes 70-17 in matches that weren’t decided by forfeit or pin fall.

Concordia’s nine winning matches consisted of three forfeits, two technical falls, two by decisions, one major decision and one pin fall.

Top-ranked 141-pounder junior Andrew Schulte extended his winning streak to 16 matches with his 24-5 win by technical fall.

Concordia’s win over the Swedes gave the Bulldogs their 11th dual win of the season, which breaks the school record previously set by the 1970-71 Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame team (10-3).

The Bulldogs will return to GPAC action with a dual at Hastings College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6.
