Home Sports Nebraska Wesleyan Too Much for Concordia Men’s Basketball

by Jacy Johnston

The Concordia Bulldogs men’s basketball team fell to 15-10 on the year and 7-9 in the GPAC with a loss to the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves. Despite a halftime lead, the second half belonged to the Prairie Wolves, who put up 61 points to win 96-83.

Five minutes into the game, a two-point margin quickly turned to a seven-point difference in favor of Nebraska Wesleyan. Concordia quickly turned momentum to regain the lead 26-25 after a basket by sophomore Rudy Knight. The first half ended with the Bulldogs on top 39-35.

The Prairie Wolves soon found their shooting spark and quickly built up a lead. Concordia continued to battle and trailed 66-59 with 11:30 left to play. Senior Micah Kohlwey cut the Nebraska Wesleyan lead to six with 3:09 left in the game. The Bulldogs were unable to surmount the 16 3-pointers made by the Prairie Wolves and ended with a loss.

“I thought we defended well in the first half and controlled the tempo,” said coach Ben Limback. “The second half they got too many easy buckets and we didn’t shoot well enough from the 3-point line to overcome it. Chandler Folkerts had a solid game for us last night.”

Folkerts scored 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Seniors Robby Thomas, Micah Kohlwey and Jamie Pearson tallied 15, 11 and 10 points respectively. Junior Eli Ziegler also netted 14 points.

“This weekend we look to bounce back at Morningside, we have to compete on the boards and avoid fouling them,” Limback said.

Concordia will travel to Morningside College to play at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6.
