Home Sports Pioneers End Volleyball’s Seven Match Streak

The Concordia volleyball team went on the road to Hastings College for tournament play this weekend, playing one match on Friday and two matches on Saturday

In the first match, the Bulldogs took on the Missouri Valley Vikings. The Bulldogs came out victorious winning in four sets, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22 and 25-22. Junior Jocelyn Garcia led the team in digs with 23. Seniors Alayna Kavanaugh and Tiegen Skains teamed up with 31 assists and 13 kills respectively. The Bulldogs had a total of 15 blocks as a team.

The second match of the tournament for Concordia went much like the first. Concordia won in four sets, defeating the Montana Western Bulldogs 24-26, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-22. Although close sets, Concordia managed to grind out a victory. Senior Paige Getz led the team in kills with 17. Kavanaugh had 50 assists and freshman Jenna Eller added 5 aces for the Concordia win.

Match three was the end of the Concordia Bulldogs’ seven-match win streak. Concordia played the MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers. Like the others, this match went to four sets, but  this time around the Bulldogs lost 18-25, 25-22, 18-25 and 18-25. Getz and freshman Alex La Plant led the team with 14 kills. Garcia added 23 digs.

The Bulldogs are now 8-7 on the season, and will play the College of St. Mary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
