Small student attendance for Concordia’s second RA event provides fun, low-stress competition

An unexpected small number of students competed in the 3v3 Capture the Flag RA event on Saturday evening. This was the second campus-wide RA event of the semester.

Sophomore Resident Assistant John “Jack” Habegger, who organized the event, explained that the expected turnout for the event was low based on the sign-up sheet.

“If turnout’s not great, that means I’ll get to hop in and play with some people, so that’ll be fun,” Habegger said. “I think the Huskers game tonight kind of took a lot of my crowd away.”

The few who participated in the event came as a group. Freshman Hannah Kirschner said, “I had some friends that were already signed up, which was the other team that we played against, and I thought it would be a nice fun, low-stress competition.”

After the event, freshman David Schenker said, “The turnout tonight was pretty small, and I’m happy with that…I go to a small church, I’ve lived in a small town. I love small turnouts.”

Even with the small group, Schnecker said that he would look forward to future RA events.

“I think so, but as long as I’m going with my friends,” he said. “Even a bad event can be good with good friends.”

Habegger was not discouraged by the size of the event. He was still happy to provide some fun for the community.

“I think everybody had fun who came,” said Habegger. “I wanted people to have fun and grow in community, and I heard people saying that they had fun playing with each other, and that they even appreciated that it was a smaller group, so maybe not what we were planning on with the small group, but it worked out well.”

The reward to the winning team was freshly baked brownies from Habegger and little Caesar’s gift cards.
