Catch up on Concordia sports action from Sept. 8-14.

Men’s Golf

The men’s golf team tied for 13th place at the Siouxland Invite on Sept. 8-9. The Bulldogs started off slow, shooting 334 and 321 in the first two rounds, but were able to salvage it with a 299 third round.

Senior Jake Richmond placed T44 with a 231 (82-77-72). Junior Jude Elgert was playing on the Concordia B team but had the second-best total for Concordia, placing T51 with a 235 (78-78-79). Freshman Calvin Zabloudil also placed T51 with a 235 (82-77-76).

The Bulldogs are back in action on Sept. 22 for the Iowa Western Bent Tree Intercollegiate.

Women’s Golf

The women’s golf team blew out its Great Plains Athletic Conference foes at the Lila Frommelt Invite, placing second as a team on Sept. 8-9 and setting a new school record.

The Bulldogs shot 658 as a team, just four strokes short of Iowa Western, who came in first. The closest GPAC opponent was Northwestern, who finished third with a 682.

Seniors Emry Custer and Maddie Lewis led the line for Concordia, coming first and second, respectively, with totals of 158 and 159. Sophomore Savannah McFalls placed T6 with 164, and freshman Olivia James placed T28 with a 177.

The women’s golf team has its next competition Sept. 16-17 at the Siouxland Invite in Sioux Center, Iowa

Men’s Tennis

The men’s tennis team competed at the GPAC Fall Championships on Sept. 12-13.

There was a singles and doubles tournament, and no team scores.

Senior Nick Velders had the best individual performance as he made it to the championship match of flight one. Senior Hugo Fuentes lost in a flight one quarterfinal match.

On the doubles side, Concordia had two teams go out in the quarterfinal of the top flight. Senior Santiago Abadia and sophomore Benjamin Chisholm, as well as Fuentes and Velders. Junior Ognjen Gajic and junior Joseph Melzer lost in the semifinals of flight two.

The men’s tennis team is back in action on Sept. 26 at the Kansas Wesleyan Invitational.

Women’s Tennis

The women’s tennis team also competed at the GPAC Fall Championships on Sept. 12-13.

There was a singles and doubles tournament, and no team scores.

In the singles tournament, the Bulldogs had senior Mariana Molano advance to the quarterfinals of flight one. Senior Gabrielle Heiser lost in the championship match of flight four.

Molano and senior Alana Lopez made the quarterfinals of the top doubles flight.

The women play next on Sept. 23 in Lincoln, Nebraska, for a duel against Nebraska Wesleyan.
