Home Sports Women’s Basketball Beats Northwestern in Overtime

The 25th ranked Bulldog basketball team played 12th ranked Northwestern this weekend beating the Red Raiders 84-82 in overtime.

Early in the first quarter, the Red Raiders jumped out to a six-point lead before the Bulldogs came back to tie it up late in the first quarter. Northwestern would take a 21-18 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter went Northwestern’s way as they stretched their lead to 11 before the Bulldogs made it an eight-point game going into halftime.

After halftime, the Bulldogs fought back with freshman Taysha Rushton who had the game-tying shot to force overtime. Freshman Sadie Powell took over the game in overtime scoring the first nine points for the Bulldogs. Powell finished with nine points, seven rebounds and three steals to help the Bulldogs late in the game.

Junior Rylee Pauli led the Bulldogs recording 17 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Behind her was Rushton who finished with 15 points and recorded five assists of her own. Freshman Bailey Conrad led the Bulldogs in assists finishing with eight and also recording 13 points.

The Bulldogs now sit at 6-4, 3-3 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference and will play Mount Marty inside Friedrich Arena on Dec. 8th with tip-off starting at 6 p.m.
