Volleyball Ends Season in Quarterfinals

Concordia’s Volleyball team lost in a 3-2 nail-biter against Marian College on Thursday, Dec 3rd. The sets went 30-28 Marian, 25-21 Bulldogs, 25-19 Marian, 26-24 Bulldogs, and 15-12 Marian.
In the final set, the Bulldogs were in familiar territory going down 5-1. The day before against Viterbo, the Bulldogs were down 5-1 and managed to pull out a victory. In this game, however, the Bulldogs tied it 12-12 and that was the closest they would get to victory.
Marian College got their revenge as Concordia eliminated them from the National Tournament last season. This season they are ranked 7th in the nation and have an overall record of 35-2.
Sophomores Camryn Opfer and Gabi Nordaker led the Bulldogs on the offensive side with 15 kills apiece. Junior Erica Hiezerling managed to get 13 kills and freshman Carly Rodaway grabbed 11 kills of her own. Senior Tara Callahan led the team in assists with 42, and sophomore Bree Burtwistle helped out with 21 assists. Burtwistle and Opfer each had 22 digs leading the team and freshman Rebecca Gebhardt had 14 digs.
Concordia finished with an overall record of 19-12, 9-7 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. In the last three years, Concordia has made it to the round of 16.
