by Jacy Johnston

The Concordia women’s soccer team traveled to Hastings on Wednesday Sept. 28 as part of a doubleheader matchup against the No. 11 Hastings Broncos. The Bulldogs fell short 2-1 after a second half comeback by the Broncos.

Freshman Sami Birmingham started the Bulldogs off with a goal less than nine minutes into the game. The goal was assisted by sophomore Maria Deeter. Concordia outshot Hastings in the first half 8-5, maintaining the lead going into the break.

After the half, the momentum continued for the Bulldogs. Despite many close efforts, Hastings did not score until late in the game at the 67 minute mark. They scored their second goal less than three minutes before the end of the game for a Bulldog loss. Concordia was on the defense as Hastings outshot the Bulldogs 9-5. The Broncos connected on two of these goals against senior goalkeeper Chrissy Lind who had eight saves on the night total.

After this GPAC loss, the Bulldogs fall to 5-4-1 on the year and 0-2 in the conference.

Concordia will continue their season 5:30 p.m on Saturday, Oct. 1 against Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
