Home Sports Zikas Cards Career Low 69 as Men’s Golf Breaks Record

by Jacy Johnston

The Bulldogs ended their two-day Briar Cliff University tournament and scored the lowest team score ever in school history. Concordia’s men shot a combined 291, which was seven strokes lower than the previous record set last fall, and earned fourth place out of 12 teams.

The Bulldogs accomplished this feat under the leadership of freshman Nolan Zikas. Zikas, already the Co-GPAC golfer of the week, continued to improve with a new personal record low. Zikas shot a 69 (-1), which was good enough for second place throughout the day and third throughout the tournament. His third-place finish was combined with his score of a 78 on day one.

Sophomores Tyler Ehresman and Russell Otten each scored a 72, tying for 14th place in the tournament. The final two scorers for the team were juniors Jared Knoepfel and Reid Wiebe tallying 83 and 78 respectively on the day.

Seniors Sam Simonson, Brock Coclasure and Garrett Suchanek also golfed at the tournament. Simonson carded a 165 (85-80), Colclasure a 169 (87-82) and Suchanek a 173 (87-86).

The Bulldogs look to continue their hot streak on April 30 during the Midland Spring Invite held in Niobrara, Nebraska.
