Concordia University volleyball kept its perfect Great Plains Athletic Conference record alive with a 3-2 win at Briar Cliff on Oct. 4.

Concordia went to extra points to settle the first set 27-25, and won the second set 25-23. A blowout 25-15 in the third set kept the Chargers alive and got them momentum to take the fourth set 28-26.

The Bulldogs were in must-win territory going into the fifth set, and went up early, 7-3, then held off a Briar Cliff comeback attempt to win the set 15-11.

Concordia uncharacteristically hit worse than the opposition, .115 compared to Briar Cliff’s .167. Briar Cliff was also better at the net on defense with 36 block assists to Concordia’s 18. Concordia took the edge, however, with 99 digs to the Chargers’ 91.

Senior Ashley Keck was the go-to option on offense as she had 71 hits and 26 kills. Junior Ella Waters topped the kill percentage charts with .297, 18 kills on 37 attempts with seven errors. Senior Savannah Shelburne led the team in assists with 43 and freshman Emma Brueggemann worked with Keck to each supply 27 digs.

The Bulldogs are 15-1 overall and 8-0 in the GPAC. They return home from their two-day trip to Sioux City and will play Northwestern, Iowa, on Oct. 10 at Friedrich Arena.
