Home Sports Women’s Soccer Beats Bethany 5-1

The Concordia women’s soccer team bounced back from their first loss of the season to tally a 5-1 win over the Bethany College Swedes Saturday, Sept. 17.

Freshman Rachael Bolin started off Concordia’s offense with a goal off of an assist by senior Kristin Manley 2:46 seconds into the game. Bolin got her second goal of the game and fourth goal of the season 26 minutes into play. Bethany netted their own goal to respond 29 minutes into the game.

In the second half of the game, a 2-1 score ensued until 65 minutes. Sophomore Maria Deeter scored off of an assist by junior Esther Soenksen. The offensive momentum continued with a goal by freshman Sami Birmingham two minutes later. For the final goal of the night, Soenksen hit the net with an assist from Birmingham.

Senior goalie Chrissy Lind had nine saves on the game, and Bolin led the team with four shots. Both Soenksen and Bolin had two shots on goal in the contest.

Concordia upped their record to 5-2-1 and will continue their season on Saturday, Sept. 24 with a home contest versus Northwestern College for the first GPAC contest of the season.
