Home Sports Bulldog Cross Country Teams Take Second and Third

Bulldog cross country began its competitive season on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Hasting College’s Bronco Stampede. The men placed second out of six teams in an 8K, and the women finished third out of seven in a 5K.

Even with two Bulldogs in the top five, the men came up two points short of first place winner Doane University.

Junior Patrick Wortmann ran a personal best and fourth place finish of 27:11.67 and junior Kohlton Gabehart came in seconds behind him with a fifth place finish of 27:13.09, propelling the men’s team to second place. Also contributing times were Junior Thomas Taylor (27:47.12), senior Chris Shelton (28:00.88), and sophomore Evan Asche (28:03.40).

The women’s team placed third, with Hastings taking first and Doane taking second.

Junior Emily Sievert led the bulldog pack with a third place finish of 19:11.88. Sophomore Taylor Grove ran a 20:00.59, while senior Marti Vlasin finished 11th with a 20:16.92 in her debut collegiate meet. Coming in after them were sophomore Abby Protzman (20:29.63), freshman Rebekah Hinrichs (20:44.16), and sophomore Jacy Johnston (20:47.48).

The Bulldogs will compete next Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Dean White Invite held by Doane University, beginning at 10 a.m.
