Director of Dining Services Bryan Scherbarth has recently decided to accept a similar position at the University of Nebraska in Kearney after serving at Concordia since August 2013.

One factor in Scherbarth’s decision is that Scherbarth’s wife is a nurse with CHI Health and has a career opportunity with Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

In his new position at UNK, Scherbarth will perform much of the same work he has done at Concordia, supervising the entire food service operations on campus including resident dining, retail, catering and other food services.

“My own career will advance substantially with new challenges and a larger scale,” Scherbarth said.

While Scherbarth believes that the time is right for his family to take this next step in their lives, he was also very sad about leaving Concordia.

“This is truly a special place, filled with incredible people,” Scherbarth said. “The staff and students here are simply amazing, and I am really going to miss them.”

Some of the best memories Scherbarth shared included moments working with students, whether it was at athletic events, in the Dog House, or even serving them freshly grilled pancakes at Concordia’s annual “Brake for Breakfast”.

Scherbarth has no official last day, and he will likely continue to return to help with support and direction when needed and with the orientation of the new permanent director of dining services.

Scherbarth will also be returning to see his wife become a Concordia graduate in December and is sure that he and his family will always be connected to the Concordia community.

“Bryan is the best director of food services I have ever had the opportunity to work with,” said Gene Brooks, vice president for student affairs and athletics.

In addition to building up the Dog House Grill, catering to athletes and showing a great sense of customer service, Brooks said that Scherbarth went out of his way to serve the needs of all students. This included adding many new menu items for students with different dietary needs as well as giving tours of the kitchen.

“He made our (Concordia’s) relationship with Chartwells really special,” Brooks said.

Chartwells’ new interim Director Robert (Bob) Agee will be handling many of the responsibilities of the position until the permanent position is filled.

“I can say that I am confident in them (Chartwells) to continue quality service,” Brooks said.
