Home Sports Bulldogs Break Records in Home Indoor Meet

If you haven’t been paying attention to the Bulldog track team, now would be a good time to start.

The Bulldogs continued to show their dominance in their home meet on Jan. 29.

“We had a good day (with) 49 personal bests (and) 17 seasonal bests,” coach Matthew Biesel said.

Sophomore Allie Brooks won the pole vault with a jump of 12’ 6.75”, breaking the school record previously owned by Cassie Starks. Brooks also tied for third in high jump with a leap of 5’ 5”. Senior Lucas Wiechman won the men’s pole vault with a vault of 15’ and 10”, as well as placing third in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.94, an indoor personal best.

Sprinters also showed up for the Bulldogs. Senior CJ Muller placed first in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:20.82. Senior Jake Rodgers placed first in the 200-meter run with a time of 22.56 seconds and second in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.50 seconds. Senior Ben Hulett placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.55 seconds.

Long distance Bulldogs were in the hunt for some personal records, as well. Sophomore Taylor Grove placed third in the 5000-meter run, with a time of 19:45.77, notching a personal best. Sophomore Evan Asche also picked up a personal best, placing third in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:51.05. Junior Pat Wortmann claimed a personal best and second place run in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:34.58, missing the national qualifying mark by two seconds.

The Bulldog throwing team came out strong as expected from the dominant program. Teammates and seniors Kali Robb and Sydney Meyer took took second and third place respectively in the weight throw with throws of 56’ ½” and 55’ 9”, also personal bests. Freshman Adrianna Shaw took second in women’s shot put with a launch of 46’ 5 1/2”.

On the men’s side, senior Cody Boellstorff received a NAIA AWARD by winning the weight throw with a season best of 66’ 9 ¾”. Senior Zach Lurz took third in shot with a throw of 54’ 7 ½”.

The Bulldogs have a big weekend coming up, as they will compete at the Sevigne Husker Invite on Feb. 3 in the Devaney Center in Lincoln. The Doane Fred Biles Invite is the following day at the Fuhrer Fieldhouse in Crete.
