The Concordia volleyball team faced the Morningside College in an away contest on Saturday, Nov. 5th and fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 26-24) against the Mustangs.

The Bulldogs, coming into the match, were 15-17 overall and 6-9 in conference play. The Mustangs came into the game with a 19-12 overall record and a 7-8 record throughout conference play.

Senior outside hitter Paige Getz reached a career milestone during the game, as she moved up to third place on the career kills for the Bulldog volleyball program. After her fourth season at Concordia, she has racked up a total of 1,323 kills.

Getz finished the game with nine kills.  Senior middle hitter Taylor Workman led the team with 12 kills, while senior setter Alayna Kavanaugh provided 32 assists. Junior defensive specialist Jocelyn Garcia added 10 digs.

“They had their A game that day and we just didn’t,” said Getz. “We beat them once so our mindset was just to go out there and play hard again.”

Morningside’s middle blocker Ashley Vande Stouwe led the Mustangs to the victory with 14 kills on the afternoon.

The Bulldogs finish GPAC play with a 7th seed and will play the 2nd-seeded Midland Warriors in the opening round of the conference tournament.  The Warriors will host the game on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

“We know what Midland is about…I think there’s an advantage to playing them twice in regular season games,” said Getz. “We know what they are capable of and also what we are capable of. It will just have to be a battle on Tuesday.”
