by Ben Middendorf

The spring 2016 tour for the University Chamber Choir began shortly after graduation in May with a series of Christ-centered performances across Nebraska and California.

The tour began May 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, and ended with a performance on May 15 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Long Beach, California.

“The tour was very successful,” director Kurt von Kampen said in an email interview. “We had excellent crowds, and the choir performed very well.”

The 16-voice choir was formed in 1998, and since then members have been specially selected from the A Cappella Choir.

Members of the choir who participated in the tour were senior Tallie Elbert, junior Jacob Fink, senior Benjamin Hayter, senior Jacob Henson, sophomore Matthew Kortze, junior Meredith Locke, sophomore Vanessa Marsh, sophomore Micah Most, senior Jennifer Reynolds, senior Clara Rich, junior Emily Sievert, Megan Sparling and senior Austin Theriot.

“The chamber tour this year was so special for me,” Locke said in an email interview. “This choir is made up of such unique, big-hearted and talented people. After a long and hard year, it was wonderful to serve the Lord with them through the beautiful gift of music.”

The Chamber Choir continues to meet and practice over the school year. Events include performing in Michigan for the Lutheran Education Association convention this fall and a weekend tour to the St. Louis area in the spring.

“[The] chamber choir tour is all about being Christ’s hands and feet,” Kortze said in an email interview. “The tour isn’t amazing because of the places we go or the songs we sing. The tour is amazing because Christ is the forefront of what the choir does, no matter where we go.”
