Home News Link Library Opens 15 Minutes Earlier in Morning This Year

by Ben Middendorf

Those eager to begin their day of studying early are in luck.  Link Library will be opening at 7:45 a.m. on weekdays this semester, 15 minutes earlier than past years. “I think the genesis of the request is primarily students or faculty who need to just pop in and get something for an 8 o’clock class,” Director of Library Services Phil Hendrickson said.  “That gives them a brief window to get that done and still get to class.”

The library experimented with a 7:45 opening for a short time in 2008, but due to budget restraints has usually opened at 8:00 until this year. The current change was prompted by a request from the Student Senate for an earlier opening.

“We’ll provide the opportunity,” Hendrickson said.  “It was asked of us to do it, so we’re giving it a go.”

The Link Library hours will now be 7:45 a.m to midnight on Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, 1-5 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to midnight on Sunday.

“It demonstrates what our mission is anyway,” Hendrickson said.  “We’re not here for the sake of the collection, for the books.  We’re here to serve the needs of the student and faculty.  That’s our goal; that’s what we like to do.  So if anyone has a need, they should ask.”
