The Concordia University women’s soccer team delivered a historic performance, defeating Waldorf University 9-0 in a dominant display that marked the largest victory of the Jason Weides era.

When the second-place Bulldogs faced the Warriors, who sat at the bottom of the standings, a one-sided contest was a possibility. Concordia, however, made sure there would be little doubt about the outcome, overwhelming Waldorf with nine goals and an explosive first-half performance.

The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Junior Avery Black opened the scoring at the 10:35 mark, giving Concordia an early 1-0 advantage. Junior Triniti Rowe doubled the lead in the 18th minute, finishing a play assisted by freshman Molli Kalsbeck.

Concordia continued to find openings in the Waldorf defense. Sophomore Guadalupe Sanchez scored an unassisted goal in the 29th minute, and just 19 seconds later, sophomore Abby Haynes added another, with Kalsbeck recording her second assist of the afternoon. Senior Kyana Rios then extended the advantage to 5-0, assisted by Sanchez.

The Bulldogs showed no signs of slowing down. Freshman Addie Snyder scored in the 36th minute after receiving a pass from Rowe, before Black found the net again in the 40th minute to complete her brace and send Concordia into halftime with a commanding 7-0 lead.

With seven goals already on the board, the Bulldogs had established complete control of the match. Their offensive production reflected a team capable of creating opportunities from different players, with goals coming from multiple positions and assists spread across the lineup.

Concordia carried its momentum into the second half. In the 64th minute, Braelyn Popple got subbed in and immediatly extended the Bulldogs’ lead to 8-0 with a header off a corner kick. The goal marked her first collegiate goal off her first collegiate touch of the ball. Juniors Sierra McElhannon and Melissa Howard were credited with the assists.

Howard then capped off the afternoon in spectacular fashion in the 85th minute. Standing approximately 30 yards from goal, she stepped up to take a direct free kick and sent the ball into the net, completing Concordia’s 9-0 victory in style.

The result represented more than just another victory for the Bulldogs. Scoring nine goals while keeping Waldorf off the scoreboard highlighted Concordia’s attacking depth and defensive discipline throughout the contest.

With the 9-0 victory, Concordia recorded the largest win of the Jason Weides era, setting a new benchmark for the program under coach Weides. The Bulldogs will look to carry that confidence into their next match as they continue their pursuit of success in conference play.

The Bulldogs will return to action next Saturday, Oct. 24, when they host Northwestern College at Bulldog Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm.
