Home Sports Concordia Soccer Overcomes Doane

The Concordia soccer teams played Doane at home Wednesday night. Both teams secured victories, with the women winning 2-0 and the men winning 2-1.

The women scored one goal in each half. The first goal came from freshman Kierstynn Garner. She capitalized on a pass from junior Aliyah Aldama at the six minute mark. The second goal was scored by freshman Savannah Andrews at the 53 minute mark with an assist from Kierstynn Garner. Concordia hit a total of 15 shots and 10 shots on the goal. Goalkeeper senior Kalie Ward had four saves on the day as well.

 

The men’s game was closer, with Doane scoring the first goal at the 14 minute mark. The Bulldogs bounced back with a goal from junior Max Bisinger. Senior Carlos Orquiz had the assist. The game-clinching goal came fairly early in the second period at the 59 minute mark. Senior Dominic Abdel-Ahad scored the goal, with the assist going to junior Isaiah Shaddick. The men put up 15 shots in total and eight shots on the goal. Sophomores Frederico Andrea Simonetti and Gabriel Mendoza achieved a save.

 

The regular season is now over and with that win, the women have clinched a Great Plains Athletic Conference berth. They finished the regular season 10-5-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the GPAC. The men finished the regular season with a 13-2-2 record overall and an impressive 8-1-2 in the GPAC. The women will play Nov. 2 and the men will play Nov. 3 in the GPAC quarterfinals. Time and place are still to be determined.
