The Concordia University volleyball team achieved a strong performance on Sept. 6 in its first Great Plains Athletic Conference outing of the season, defeating the Mount Marty Lancers in three sets.
Throughout the first set, the Bulldogs looked to pull away, but the Lancers continued finding ways to come back. The Lancers strung together five points in a row to take the lead from a 16-12 deficit, but Concordia rallied to win the set 25-22. The first set was the best hitting set for Concordia as they posted a .262 percentage.
The second set was a much more lopsided affair as it finished 25-13. The Bulldogs went on a 15-1 run to end the set after a close start. The Lancers struggled to find success at the net and finished the set hitting -.100 compared to Concordia’s .143.
The third and final set was the closest, with the margin never higher than three points. The Bulldogs eventually won out 26-24.
Senior Molli Martin led the team in kill percentage with .357 and blocks with two solos and three assists. Senior Ashley Keck led in total kills with 14 on 39 attempts. Freshman Ella Brueggemann topped the assist chart with 20, while her sister, freshman Emma Brueggemann, led the team in digs with 13.
The Bulldogs are 8-1 overall and 1-0 in the GPAC. Their next game is at home on Sept. 10 at 7:30 pm against the College of Saint Mary.
