By Miriam Lipke

To top off Concordia’s Pink Week, the Student Activities Council brought Extreme Bongo Ball to campus for the third year in a row. Bongo Ball took place in the Walz Fieldhouse on Friday, Oct. 21, beginning at 8 P.M. Students began showing up right at opening time to take part in the event, which lasted until midnight.

Bongo Ball is a combat game where participants use pressurized air guns to shoot foam balls at one another. Two teams are usually formed, each with four people. The objective of the game is to shoot opponents before getting hit. After being shot, a participant is out of the game, and the team with the last person standing wins.

“It’s like laser tag,” SAC Advisor Rehema Kavugha said.

Large barriers of different sizes were set up for players to hide behind. The players also wore large black masks, which served as protection and contributed to illusion of warfare.

“The combat intensity of Bongo Ball makes it a blast,” junior Payton DeVencenty said.

The materials and equipment of Bongo Ball were provided by CEP Incorporated, an organization that services games and activities to schools and campuses nationwide.

The playing field and the guns themselves were set up by SAC members, who remained in the Fieldhouse during playing time. SAC Co-chair leader Andrea McClanahan reported that set up went smoothly and quickly, due to the large number of SAC volunteers who showed up to help.

“We have a really big SAC membership right now, 22 members”, McClanahan said

SAC strives to provide a variety of events to students and Bongo Ball engages those who enjoy intensity and physical activity. The game also gives students an opportunity to have fun and burn off some energy.

“After a week of students raising awareness of breast cancer, it’s cool to just have a fun night to celebrate,” Kavugha said.
