Home Sports Hernandez leads Bulldogs in 2-1 win over Red Raiders

Junior forward Marcelo Hernandez scored his second and third goals of the season in Saturday night’s soccer match against Northwestern College on Sept. 25. Hernandez scored both goals for the Bulldogs in the conference opener. The first goal came in the 62nd minute of the game with the assist coming from freshman forward Carlos Ferrer. In the 85th minute, Hartrick Tarr of Northwestern followed Hernandez’s goal to tie the game. Hernandez struck again in the first minute of overtime winning the game for the Bulldogs. The assist came from junior defender Florian Caraballo.  

“Its really nice to see us get one in overtime,” coach Jason Weides said. “The last couple of years we’ve been in a lot of overtimes. It’s really nice to be on the winning side.”

The Bulldogs kept the Red Raiders to only six shots, with only three on goal. Concordia managed to find 16 shots on the night. Hernandez led the team with six shots and junior forward Micah Lehenbauer had five shots.

Concordia now has a 4-1-2 record on the season and a 1-0 GPAC record.

The Bulldogs will travel to no. 5 Hastings College on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m
